What does Deep Ellum mean to you?
Kumiko Griffin
It's part of my life, I attend the Deep Ellum Outdoor Market every weekend. I love Deep Ellum, I've met a lot of people there and been influenced by a lot of artists.
Tish Amparan Danie
Great memories of my time at the University of North Texas in Denton. We would often spend Deep Ellum weekends enjoying music, art and getting my first tattoo before anyone in my family did, making Deep Ellum a fun and rebelious memory.
Jack Russell
alot. it’s decades of art, music, food, culture, people. i couldn’t begin to describe in this box.
Whitney Tates
Deep Ellum is where I completed my first mural. I felt truly honored to be one of the chosen artists to participate in the 42 Murals project.
Whitney Warren
I love the deep elm area, I lived there for over a year.. the diversity, the culture, for food and lack of feeling judged and being able to express your creativity in your community is important.
Jennifer Neily
I live in the area and was invited to exhibit at the 2023 Deep Ellum Festival. Lots of fun and hope to do it again!
David Miner
I moved to the DFW area almost 20 years ago. Having been a musician and artist my entire life, I’ve always been naturally attracted to the artistic culture of Deep Ellum.
Anthony Mikkelson
It's a confluence of various arts and cultures, hip-hop, metal, punk, and pop. It's got a bustling food scene, art scene, and venue space with a bourgeoning residential (high-rise apartment) community.
Holly Glenn
Deep Ellum is a rich artistic community that supported the arts and art culture. It especially aids in the promotion of regional artists. The community comes out to support creativity!
Pearce Dunlap
it's a fun community and a solid place where I spent a lot of time running around in my 20s going to shows and finding new bars to hang out in.
Tai Taeoalii
For the past 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of selling my artwork at the Deep Ellum Art Festival, and during that time, I’ve developed a deep and lasting connection to the area. I’ve seen Deep Ellum through its highs and lows, and even though I don’t live in Dallas, it feels like a second home. I have family living there, many of my collectors are there, and I’ve spent so much time walking those streets that I know them like the back of my hand.
I proudly wear my Deep Ellum hoodies and tank tops wherever I go, sharing the story of this unique and vibrant community with the world. I’ve always advocated for Deep Ellum because it

During my time living in the DFW area, I thoroughly enjoyed the vibrant and welcoming atmosphere of Deep Ellum. From its incredible music scene to its great food, the neighborhood had a relaxed and inviting energy that made it a standout part of Dallas. One of my most memorable experiences was assisting my professor, Justin Ginsberg, with his pop-up art shows. These events transformed old, industrial buildings into unique art spaces, creating a raw and authentic backdrop for the work. This setting made the art feel more accessible and relatable to a broader audience.
Looking back, I wish I had spent more time in Deep Ellum. The neighborhood
Alexander Isokrari
I have always loved the artistic energy that is Deep Ellum, the hum of creativity and feeedom of expression that permeates in the atmosphere all around.
Rick VanHook
I am married to a Texas girl from Burleson who is also an artist and we both have always enjoyed coming to participate in the Deep Ellum Art Festival. It is rich in history, we love the local businesses we always visit when there and the show has always been a huge success for us! The support the locals give all the artists is nothing short of amazing!!!
Charlee Strunk
Growing up in the north Dallas area, Deep Ellum was always one of those places I knew I could go and find some of the coolest local art around. I never had the opportunity to really participate in the art community, but it always seemed like a place that the community really rallied around and supported in a way that felt like something to aspire towards.
Andrew and Blair Hillis
Deep Ellum is a place that has given us amazing memories throughout our lives. Whether it is the numerous venues that Andrew has performed at with previous musical acts as a vocalist and guitarist, living nearby and going to the local restaurants/bars, or walking the streets at past arts festivals as loyal patrons, Deep Ellum means a lot to us. We participated in the 2023 Deep Ellum Community Arts Fair and would love to be a part of the event again in 2024! We hope to hear from you soon, thank you for your consideration.
