Visiting my hometown in Chicago 2018 my mom showed me some of her work with alcohol ink on tiles to be used as coasters. I loved the look and asked her to teach me. For several days I unleashed my inner artist and created a few hand-painted coasters. Then I returned to Dallas and on with life. A month later my oldest brother was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. It was devastating to my family and I needed a therapeutic outlet. I invested in some inks, started creating, and haven't stopped. I was creating so much that I had to do something with my growing inventory and started doing shows — weeny shows, farmers market type events — then Covid turned the world upside down. In 2022 I started doing larger more substantive juried shows. My Uniquely Neily products have morphed from simple coasters to other functional items like trivets and various-size boxes including tissue box covers as well as functional wall decor — painted tile mounted to a piece of wood I stain and then adding coat or key hooks. I tell people my items are unique, I'm Neily and therefore they're Uniquely Neily! 🙂

What does Deep ellum mean to me?

I live in the area and was invited to exhibit at the 2023 Deep Ellum Festival. Lots of fun and hope to do it again!
